The relationship between visible light emission and species fraction of the hydrogen ion beams extracted from 2.45 GHz microwave discharge.

2015

The relationship between Balmer-α and Fulcher-band emissions with extracted H + , H + 2 , and H + 3 ions is demonstrated for a 2.45 GHz microwave discharge. Ion mass spectra and optical measurements of Balmer-α and Fulcher-band emissions have been obtained with a Wien Filter having an optical viewport on the plasma chamber axis. The beam of approximately 1 mA is analyzed for different plasma conditions simultaneously with the measurement of light emissions both with temporal resolution. The use of visible light emissions as a valuable diagnostic tool for monitoring the species fraction of the extracted beams is proposed. peerReviewed

Environment-Aware RSSI Based Positioning Algorithm for Random Angle Interference Cancellation in Visible Light Positioning System

2021

International audience; Visible Light Positioning (VLP) is considered to be one of the most promising candidates for future Location Based Service (LBSs). The traditional Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) based VLP system is highly sensitized with receiver's orientation. However, the assumption of the receiver's orientation fixed or perfectly known is not realistic in practice. Thus, a random angle between receiver and the horizontal plane inevitably appears among localization, which extremely affects positioning results. This paper proposed an Environment-Aware RSSI based positioning algorithm for VLP system. It enables to mainly eliminate random angle interference without the hel…

Enhancement of calcium copper titanium oxide photoelectrochemical performance using boron nitride nanosheets

2020

International audience; Photoelectrochemical water splitting under visible light has attracted attention for renewable hydrogen production. Despite prevalent investigations, many challenges still hindered an efficient energy conversion, such as enhancing the reaction efficiency in visible light. Thus controlling the photoelectrode materials is an essential step in designing new materials for water splitting. CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) has received great attention as photocatalyst under solar light due to its combined band gap as result of the presence in its structure of TiO2 active in UV light and CuO active under visible light. In this work, a cubic CCTO with different amount of exfoliated hexago…

Preparation of N-doped TiO2: characterization and photocatalytic performance under UV and visibile light

2009

Nanocrystalline N-doped TiO(2) samples were prepared by using TiCl(4) or TiOSO(4) as precursors. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, BET specific surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity was tested using the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol under UV and visible light. Some samples were more active than commercial Degussa P25. A shift of the absorption edge to a lower energy and a stronger absorption in the visible light region were observed in the samples obtained from TiCl(4). Two absorption edges were observed in the samples derived from T…

Influence of laminated architectures of heterostructured CeO2-ZnO and Fe2O3-ZnO films on photodegradation performances

2020

Abstract The development of photocatalytically active films has gained a great attention in recent years. Herein, new heterostructured films associating ZnO and CeO2 or Fe2O3 and exhibiting various architectures were prepared by the solution precursor thermal spray (SPPS) process. The paper examines the effect of the films laminated architectures on the photodegradation performance. For CeO2-ZnO and Fe2O3-ZnO films, the photodegradation efficiency of the Orange II dye is 100% and 95% after 240 min UV light irradiation and after 360 min visible light irradiation, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the laminated structures was found to depend on the materials used to construct the h…

Optical wireless communication systems

2017

Abstract The emerging field of optical wireless communication (OWC) systems is seen as potential complementary technology to the radio frequency wireless communications in certain applications. It is deemed as a possible technology in the future 5th Generation communication networks to address the spectrum congestion and improve the system’s capacity. More research and developments in OWC is still needed in order for it to be adopted in current and future communication systems. This special issue brings together research papers on OWC covering free space optic, visible communications and ultraviolet communications.

Reversible Modulation of Elasticity in Fluoroazobenzene-Containing Hydrogels Using Green and Blue Light.

2017

Hydrogels are soft materials that have found multiple applications in biomedicine and represent a good platform for the introduction of molecular switches and synthetic machines into macromolecular networks. Tuning their mechanical properties reversibly with light is appealing for a variety of advanced applications and has been demonstrated in the past; however, their activation typically requires the use of UV light, which displays several drawbacks related to its damaging character and limited penetration in tissues and materials. This study circumvents this limitation by introducing all-visible ortho-fluoroazobenzene switches into a hydrophilic network, which, as a result, can be activat…

On the perception of leaf morphology and visible light by Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acariformes, Tetranychidae)

2022

The two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae is one of the most polyphagous and most damaging pests worldwide. The behaviour of the mite differs on its various host plants and this could influence crop defence strategies. We investigated the perception of leaf morphology by T. urticae in relation to the effects of visible light on the selection of sites on which females prefer to live and feed. Mite females chose the shaded surface when smooth and glabrous lemon leaves were offered as a surface for living and feeding, showing a photophobic behaviour. However, they clearly preferred the abaxial surface of bean leaves regardless of the presence or absence of visible light. As no difference…
